About Melisa P. Sheldon, LCSW

I'm Melisa P. Sheldon, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the founder of Anchorage Counseling LLC in Stuart, Florida. (And yes—it's Melisa with one "s," though after a lifetime of seeing it written as Melissa Sheldon, I promise I answer to both.)

I bring more than three decades of clinical experience to this work. Over those years I've walked alongside people through some of life's hardest terrain—addiction and recovery, childhood trauma, grief, and seasons of change that turn everything upside down. My background includes hospice work, which taught me things about loss, meaning, and resilience that no textbook could.

Who I Work With

My practice centers on adults affected by addiction—personally or through family history. Many of my clients are adult children of alcoholics, people untangling codependency and people-pleasing, or individuals building lasting recovery. I also work extensively with trauma, anxiety and depression, grief and terminal illness, and major life transitions.

How I Work

My approach is trauma-informed, supportive, and collaborative. I'm trained in EMDR therapy, an evidence-based treatment that helps the brain reprocess painful memories so they lose their grip. But technique is only part of it—healing happens in a relationship where you feel genuinely safe, respected, and never judged. We move at your pace, always.

I see clients in person at my Stuart office and by telehealth throughout Florida and New Jersey. You can also find me on Psychology Today.
